Certification Process for CPR / AED

Part I: eLearning Modules

Instructions for both individuals and groups:

  1. Complete the request form.
    1. CPR Certification for Individuals form
    2. CPR Certification for Groups form
  2. Each individual will receive instructions via email within 7 days for accessing American Heart Association eLearning course.
  3. Complete eLearning course (takes approximately 2 hours). Save or print Certificate of CPR eLearning Course Completion.

Part II: Skills Check 

Instructions for individuals completing BLS certification:

  1. Complete the BLS Skills Check request form to choose a Skills Check Session date and time for BLS.
  2. Attend your scheduled Skills Check Session (takes approximately 90 minutes). NOTE: You must show your Certificate of CPR eLearning Course Completion to gain entry to your Skills Check Session. Held in Leon Levine Hall. 

Instructions for individuals completing Heartsaver certification:

  1. Complete the Heartsaver Skills Check request form to choose a Skills Check Session date and time for Heartsaver.
  2. Attend your scheduled Skills Check Session (takes approximately 90 minutes). NOTE: You must show your Certificate of CPR eLearning Course Completion to gain entry to your Skills Check Session. Held in Varsity Gym.

Instructions for BLS groups:

  1. Select one of two options:
    1. You may schedule a group skills check by contacting Mary Sheryl Horine at horinems@appstate.edu to identify a time/day for your group’s skills check.
    2. Individual group members may complete the Skills Check Form on their own to accomodate their own schedules.
  2. Group or individual will attend scheduled Skills Check Session (takes approximately 90 minutes). NOTE: Individual must show Certificate of CPR eLearning Course Completion to gain entry to Skills Check Session.

Instructions for Heartsaver groups:

  1. Contact Steff McDaniel in Health Promotion for Faculty and Staff to schedule your Heartsaver skills check.

Skills Check Session Schedules

Limited spots are available for each session and is based on instructor availability.

Registration and Certificate of CPR eLearning Course Completion are required — see certification process for more details. Drop-ins will not be accepted. Sign ups close the week prior to the skills check date.

  • April 14, 2025, 4:00-6:00 p.m. Capacity 24 students (all seats filled)
  • April 29, 2025, 9:00-11:00 a.m. Capacity 18 students (6 seats available)
  • May 1, 2025, 1:00-3:00 p.m. Capacity 18 students (10 seats available)
