Events and Education
Parent to Parent Family Support Network of the High Country provides support, education and caring connections for families who have a child with a disability, an emotional or health condition, have a child born prematurely; or are grieving the death of a child.
In order to support the program as well as provide connection and education to family members, providers, and the High Country community, Parent Family Support Network of the High Country hosts multiple events each year. Please join us!
Growing Well Conference
The annual Growing Well Conference offers inspiration, education, and connection for those working to support children and youth with special healthcare needs in rural western North Carolina. The conference features a dynamic mix of individual and group presentations, expert panel discussions, and hands-on demonstrations. Sessions will be led by healthcare providers, researchers, government leaders, educators, and individuals with lived experience—offering a wide range of perspectives.
Unmet Needs, a documentary film
The documentary film Unmet Needs explores critical gaps in services, supports, and systems affecting individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Following the screening, Talley Wells, Executive Director of the North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities, will lead an engaging question-and-answer session focused on advocacy, policy, and ongoing needs highlighted in the film.
Parent to Parent Family Support Network will be hosting a reception following the discussion, offering attendees the opportunity to continue the conversation and connect with others interested in disability advocacy and community well-being.

The Spooky Duke
The Spooky Duke 5K/10K Costume March, launched in 2011, is an annual fundraiser supporting the Parent to Parent Family Support Network of the High Country. Proceeds help connect families with essential resources, support, and opportunities to build community. The event welcomes costumes, team participation, and runners and walkers of all abilities—celebrating that all children have abilities and gifts to share—making it a fun and fully inclusive experience for everyone.
