Evaluation Services and Activities
The High Country Developmental Clinic offers developmental evaluations for infants and young children from birth to age 5 who may have concerns about their development.
During an evaluation, your family will meet with a caring, team-based group of professionals, which may include an allied health provider, medical provider, social worker, and family navigator. We take time to get to know your child and listen to your concerns.
Our team uses trusted, research-based tools along with play, observation, and parent input to better understand your child’s development. This may include activities that look at movement, communication, social interaction, learning, and behavior.
We also review your child’s medical history and your observations at home. Together, this information helps us identify your child’s strengths and areas where support may be helpful, and allows us to create a personalized care plan with clear recommendations.
Care Programs
High-Risk Infant Follow-Up
Our High-Risk Infant Follow-Up Program supports babies who were born early, had medical challenges at birth, or spent time in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). These babies may have a higher chance of developmental delays, and early monitoring can make a big difference.
We follow infants and young children through the early years, with visits scheduled at important developmental stages. At each visit, we check on:
- Development and learning
- Growth and nutrition
- Medical needs
- Behavior and social development
- Early signs of conditions such as cerebral palsy or autism
We partner closely with families and your child’s primary care provider to adjust care and recommendations as your child grows.
Early Childhood Developmental Evaluation Program
We provide developmental evaluations for toddlers and preschool-aged children with concerns related to development, behavior, or learning. Children may be referred by pediatricians, hospital NICUs, the North Carolina Infant–Toddler Program (Early Intervention), or other healthcare and early childhood providers.
Growing Well provides evaluations for concerns related to:
- Movement, strength, or muscle tone
- Language, communication, or social interaction
- Feeding, growth, or nutrition
- Behavior, attention, or learning
- Early signs of autism, cerebral palsy, or other developmental conditions
Multidisciplinary Care and Provider Consultation
Your child’s care is guided by a team approach. Pediatric medical providers, therapists, social workers, and family navigators work together to provide thorough evaluations and ongoing support tailored to your child and family.
We also partner closely with local pediatricians and family medicine providers to make sure care is well coordinated. This includes:
- Accepting referrals for children with developmental concerns
- Sharing written visit summaries and recommendations after appointments
- Offering consultation and education to support early developmental monitoring
Individual evaluations and follow-up appointments are available by referral and are scheduled through our clinic office.
Whole-Family Support
Growing Well is here to support your whole family, not just your child. Our team can help with:
- Coordinating care across medical providers, therapists, and early childhood programs
- Parent education and coaching tailored to your child’s needs
- Connecting your family to physical, occupational, speech, or feeding therapy
- Navigating Early Intervention, preschool, school services, and community resources
Our goal is to help families feel informed, supported, and confident about next steps.
