Information for Families
Welcome
Welcome to the Growing Well – High Country Developmental Clinic. Our clinic provides early screening and care for infants and young children from birth to age 5 with concerns related to developmental delays, cerebral palsy, autism, and other developmental differences.
Your child may have been referred to us by a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), pediatrician, or Early Intervention provider. We do not accept self-referrals from families. If you have concerns about your child’s development and are not yet connected with our clinic, we encourage you to talk with your child’s pediatrician or primary care provider about whether a referral to Growing Well would be helpful.
What to Expect at Your Visit
At your child’s visit, our team may:
- Check your child’s development, including movement, play, language, and social interaction
- Review growth and nutrition
- Discuss medical needs and health history
- Talk about behavior and how your child is doing at home, in child care, or at preschool
- Address any concerns related to cerebral palsy, autism, or other developmental conditions
You will stay with your child throughout the visit. At the end of the appointment, we will talk through what we observed, answer your questions, and make a plan together. This plan may include activities you can try at home, therapy referrals, and recommendations for follow-up visits.
How We Evaluate Development
To better understand your child’s development, we use a combination of approaches, including:
- Standardized assessment tools, such as the Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination (HINE), Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development (Bayley-4), EARLIpoint, ADOS-2, and other tools designed to identify early signs of developmental delay, including cerebral palsy and autism
- Parent and caregiver questionnaires
- Review of medical and developmental history
We combine all of this information to provide a clear, family-friendly explanation of your child’s strengths and areas where additional support may be helpful.
What to Bring
To help your visit go smoothly, please bring:
- Your child’s insurance or Medicaid card
- A list of questions or concerns you would like to discuss
- Snacks, favorite toys, or comfort items for your child
If you have questions or concerns before your appointment, please contact your child’s primary care provider or call our clinic for guidance.
