At Aging Well, we understand the importance of safe and comfortable driving, especially as we age. Our CarFit program is designed to assess and enhance the "fit" between you and your vehicle, addressing factors that can affect your driving experience.

What is CarFit?

CarFit is an educational program developed by the American Society on Aging in collaboration with AAA, AARP, and the American Occupational Therapy Association. It focuses on adjustments to your vehicle that can make you more comfortable and improve your driving safety.

Program Features

Personalized Assessments

  • Trained technicians from the App State Occupational Therapy program will conduct personalized assessments, taking into consideration your height, line of sight, and overall comfort. 
  • Vehicle adjustments will be recommended based on individual needs to ensure optimal driving posture.

Safety Tips and Information

  • Access valuable information and tips on driving safety, especially tailored for older adults. 
  • Learn about the latest safety features in modern vehicles and how to use them effectively.

Educational Workshops

  • Attend workshops conducted by experts in the field of occupational therapy and driving safety.
  • Gain insights into maintaining mobility and independence while driving.

How to Participate

  1. Schedule an Appointment:  Call the Interprofessional Clinic at 828-262-8658 to schedule a convenient appointment. Appointments are available at Levine Hall of Health Sciences.
  2. Bring Your Vehicle:  Drive your vehicle to the appointment to receive personalized recommendations.
  3. Learn and Implement:  Receive guidance on making simple adjustments to improve your driving experience. Implement suggested changes and experience the benefits of a properly fitted vehicle.
